We've Arrived

We finally arrived in Rome at 2:00pm, which meant that it had been about 22.5 hours since we had left Pittsburgh. But of course, we were still at the airport. Our shuttle to the Pantheon Institute was supposed to arrive at 6:30pm, so we sat, we slept, and we waited. Our other roommate joined our waiting party when her flight got in at 4:30pm. At 6:45pm a crowd of us had gathered, including students from Carnegie Mellon and L.A., but the shuttles were not their yet. After calling the institute, the taxi arrived at 7:15. However, we had to wait for two students from Illinois, whose 6:30 arrival time had been delayed. Finally at 8pm, we crawled into the tiny vans. It was a tight squeeze but with luggage piled on top of us, we managed to get everyone and everything in.
After the nearly 45 minute crazy car ride, we arrived at Santa Maria in Cappella, a former convent that had been transformed into dorm appartments. After recieving our room assignments, we moved in. Despite the urge to fall into bed and sleep for days, our stomachs took priority. We joined our RAs and housing coordinator for an enjoyable dinner, which included appetizers of fried artichoke, muscles, anchovies, and prosciutto, a main meal of pizza, and a glass of wine. Despite my hesitation, I tried everything and was pleasantly surprized. Or perhaps it was the fact that it had been 11 hours since I'd eaten.
